Development of Dareen and Tarot Island
More than 5,000 years
Dareen and Tarot Island are located on the banks of the Arabian Gulf on the governorate of Qatif, dating back more than 5,000 years. Throughout its long history, it has become a seaport, trading hub and active market. It is home to many ancient civilizations over thousands of years and has more than 11 historical and heritage sites, most notably Tarot Castle and Dareen Palace. (Al-Fehani) and Dareen Airport, Saudi Arabia's first airport, and its environmental and natural origins are characterized by its natural habitat for mangrove forests.
Development and Quality of Life
Sharqia Development Authority worked on the developming Dareen Island and Tarot, which where adopted by the Council of Ministers decision, and established the Dareen Island and Tarot Development Foundation to improve the quality of life and the development of local output, by taking advantage of the island's comparative advantages in the heritage, environment and tourism aspects, thereby contributing to economic diversification.
The development was based on three pillars to draw the future of Dareen and Tarot Island: preserving the island's cultural and historical heritage, revive natural and environmental sites, improve the quality of life and enhance its tourism economy, through many initiatives.
